Editorial Reviews:
Synopsis
The Chainsaw Operator’s Manual has been the benchmark training tool for safe chainsaw operations since it was first published in 1983. Numerous revisions and new editions have ensured that the manual stays relevant to the needs of chainsaw users in forest industries, the emergency services sector and many other government departments, agencies, contractors and the wider community.

The manual contains a comprehensive collection of easy-to-follow charts, color illustrations and instructions covering basic, intermediate and advanced tree felling. Workplace safety, kick-back, personal protection equipment and maintenance are comprehensively covered in the introductory sections. This is followed by basic cross-cutting sequences and assessment of internal stress in fallen timber to avoid saw jamming, horizontal splitting of timber and other dangerous situations. The second and third sections of the manual lead the user from the theory of simple tree felling through to dealing with dangerous and defective trees.

The manual is designed for all timber workers who use chainsaws in the course of their work, keeping their safety and welfare in mind at all times. The 7th edition of the manual brings it into line with the most recent changes to national competencies for chainsaw operations established by National Training Information Service (NTIS), which form the basis for accreditation in government agencies.
